Bangladeshi national arrested for kidnapping and assault

A Bangladeshi national has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and assaulting an individual.
The suspect arrested in connection with this case has been identified as Iqbal Mia, a 35-year-old Bangladeshi national.
The Criminal Court on Friday ordered him to be remanded in custody for 30 days at a custodial prison facility.
According to a remand order issued by the Criminal Court, sufficient evidence has been presented to support the allegations against the suspect. This evidence includes a formal incident report. The police informed the court that the individual is accused of kidnapping and assaulting a foreign national.
Furthermore, the court noted that Iqbal Mia is residing in the Maldives illegally and concluded that he poses a potential threat to public safety.
The prevalence of crimes committed by foreign nationals in the Maldives has seen a significant increase recently. Police have previously noted a rise in their involvement in activities such as kidnappings, assaults, and drug-related offenses, leading to the dismantling of several major criminal networks.
