Man remanded for 15 days over death threats
The Criminal Court has ordered the 15-day remand of Ahmed Fairish, a resident of Noovil in Ha. Hoarafushi, following allegations of issuing a death threat. The court decided to detain the suspect, who has an extensive criminal record involving assault and intimidation, after reviewing evidence suggesting he poses a significant threat to public safety.

A man who allegedly issued death threats has been remanded in custody for 15 days.
Ahmed Fairish, of Noovil, HA. Hoarafushi, has been taken into custody for allegedly issuing death threats. The court ordered his detention in a custodial facility under the Criminal Procedure Act.
Fairish was taken into custody at 12:35 p.m. on February 18, 2026. His current detention period is set to expire at 12:34 p.m. on March 5, 2026.
The Criminal Court issued the remand order based on sufficient evidence supporting the allegations. According to the court, witness statements indicate that the suspect had issued threats of physical violence. The court further noted a significant risk that the suspect may carry out an attack and cause physical harm.
In issuing the detention order, the court cited Article 49 of the Constitution, as well as Sections 59 and 60 of the Criminal Procedure Act. The individual was remanded in custody on the grounds that they pose a potential threat to public safety.
The court noted that the individual’s criminal record reveals numerous arrests for various offenses, including issuing threats and committing acts of violence and assault. Furthermore, the court stated that given the suspect’s history of such offenses and the fact that the current threats involved inflicting various forms of physical harm, there is a significant likelihood that the individual may carry out such a crime.
