21-year-old Nepalese woman arrested on suspicion of drug use and trafficking
The Criminal Court has remanded a Nepalese woman in custody for 15 days following her arrest on suspicion of drug possession and trafficking. Police informed the court that illicit substances were found in plain view within her residence, and subsequent testing confirmed she tested positive for cannabis.

A 21-year-old Nepalese woman has been arrested in the Maldives on suspicion of drug use and trafficking.
According to the Criminal Court order, Nisha Rai, a 21-year-old Nepalese national, has been arrested on allegations of drug use, possession, and trafficking.
On Sunday, the court ordered her to be remanded in custody for 15 days at a custodial prison facility.
The court order stated that sufficient evidence has been presented to establish a reasonable suspicion that the accused committed the alleged offense. This evidence includes statements from the officers who attended the scene, a witness statement, and detailed reports on the narcotics discovered at the site. Furthermore, the prosecution submitted laboratory analysis reports confirming the weight and composition of the substances, a crime scene investigation report, and the results of the suspect's urine analysis.
Police informed the court that Nisha Rai tested positive for cannabis following a urine analysis.
Furthermore, the defense noted that Nisha Rai is not involved in the sale or trafficking of narcotics. They asserted that her presence at the scene was solely due to her romantic involvement with one of the suspects in the case.
According to the court documents, both the suspect and another individual involved in the case were found to be residing in the room where the narcotics were discovered. The records further indicate that a towel belonging to the suspect and her passport-sized photograph were also recovered from the premises. The court order additionally noted the Investigating Officer's statement that the seized items were found in plain view within the room.
As the police continue their investigation into the matter, the Prosecutor General’s Office has decided to extend the investigation deadline until March 3, 2026.
