President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to building equitable and inclusive societies where the rights and dignity of all individuals are upheld.

The President made these remarks in a message issued on the occasion of World Day of Social Justice.

Stating that social justice is more than just an aspiration, he emphasized that it serves as the guiding principle for shaping peaceful, resilient, and equitable societies. Furthermore, he called upon the international community to work with renewed determination to reduce inequalities and empower societies to ensure inclusivity.

In his message, he highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen social protection, ensure gender equality, promote inclusive development, and safeguard the rights of vulnerable groups. He further stated that the Maldives' participation in the Global Coalition for Social Justice reinforces the nation's commitment to establishing social justice. He added that this membership would facilitate the integration of international standards into national policies.

Furthermore, he highlighted newly launched initiatives aimed at expanding access to services, with a particular focus on facilitating opportunities for individuals with special needs. He noted that these efforts have strengthened the foundation for evidence-based decision-making, guided by updated standards and regulations, while fostering lifelong learning and enhancing community engagement.

He highlighted the priority given to expanding housing programs, developing healthcare services, and fostering equitable economic opportunities to support a life of dignity and productivity. Furthermore, his message noted the enrichment of the national curriculum and the expansion of educational opportunities, ensuring greater accessibility and flexibility in learning.

Concluding his message, he acknowledged that differences exist and that challenges will continue to arise in the future. He called upon all parties to work towards ensuring that social justice is not merely a promise, but a global reality.

In a post on X marking the occasion, President Muizzu stated that establishing social justice means ensuring equal opportunity, dignity, and security for all citizens across the Maldives. He further urged everyone to steer the nation toward a sustainable future, guided by the principles of compassion and shared responsibility.

World Social Justice Day is observed annually on February 20th to advocate for social equality and to raise awareness against issues such as poverty, exclusion, and injustice.
