President Muizzu is attempting to reshape the entire system to remain in power through bribery and corruption, but the people will change this situation: MP Mauroof
MP Mauroof has accused the government of halting development projects and distributing funds for personal needs solely to gain political favor. Furthermore, he alleged that awarding projects to foreign companies has facilitated corruption and money laundering. Emphasizing that the public deserves transparency regarding these actions, Mauroof asserted that the power to change this situation rests entirely with the citizens.

Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency, Mauroof Zakir, has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is attempting to restructure the entire governance system to remain in power by spreading bribery and corruption throughout the nation.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "TV Talk" program, Member of Parliament Mauroof noted that during President Muizzu’s meetings with the public, the majority of citizens tend to raise personal grievances and seek solutions for individual concerns. He observed that there are relatively few instances where citizens come forward to discuss broader community issues, seek solutions for collective challenges facing their islands, or express concern regarding the stagnation of local development projects.
He stated that the current administration is focused on providing financial assistance to individuals to address their specific needs. He further noted that President Muizzu is well aware that fulfilling these personal requirements through monetary means is an effective way to secure votes.
President Muizzu has now realized that by dealing with individuals personally and using funds to resolve their immediate financial needs, he can secure their votes and support. This is why he is establishing committees in every island to personally address these individual issues by providing temporary financial handouts. We have heard of cases where the President has directly provided thousands of dollars to certain individuals for overseas travel, bypassing established systems like NSPA and Aasandha. The source of these funds remains unknown. Therefore, this appears to be a calculated move to deal directly with citizens and use money to bridge gaps within such a system.Mauroof Zakir, Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency.
MP Mauroof highlighted that the entire system is being restructured to maintain power through bribery and corruption, asserting that new state companies are being established specifically for this purpose. He noted that numerous companies are currently being formed and projects are being awarded to foreign firms primarily to facilitate kickback deals. Furthermore, he alleged that funds are being laundered by making direct US dollar transfers (TTs) to foreign companies, allowing the money to be withdrawn outside the Maldives.
MP Mauroof stated that despite withholding funds and stalling development projects, the government continues to distribute money to the public ahead of elections solely to remain in power. He further emphasized that the public must be made aware of these actions, noting that the power to change this situation rests entirely in the hands of the citizens.
