No hope for electricity during Ramadan: Addu Mayor
Nizar has expressed grave concern over the government’s neglect of the city's development, noting that the water and sewerage systems have deteriorated beyond use while significant budget cuts have crippled administrative operations. Highlighting the ongoing electricity crisis, Nizar criticized the administration for relying on temporary fixes rather than permanent solutions, leaving residents in constant fear of power outages. The Mayor further condemned the government's apparent disregard for critical infrastructure projects, warning that the current trajectory is severely undermining the city's progress.

Addu City Mayor and MDP mayoral candidate Ali Nizar has stated that there is no hope for a stable electricity supply in the city during the upcoming month of Ramadan.
Speaking at the "Addu Bodu Jalsa" rally held by the MDP in Addu City on Friday night, Nizar stated that the current administration is carrying out projects across the country in name only. He further asserted that no actual progress is being made and that, apart from the installation of an ATM, the government has delivered nothing for the people of Addu.
Mayor Nizar stated that the water and sewerage systems were installed in name only. He noted that the entire district of Hithadhoo is currently plagued by contaminated water, and it has been exactly one year since the residents last had access to clean, safe drinking water.
The water and sanitation systems were installed in name only; sewage is overflowing across Hithadhoo. It has been exactly one year since the residents were deprived of a reliable water supply. In fact, clean drinking water has been unavailable not just to the people of Hithadhoo, but to the entire atoll for a full year. We live in constant uncertainty, never knowing when the next power outage will strike. There is no hope that electricity services will be stable during the upcoming month of Ramadan. Is this the level of care we deserve? One must ask: what exactly was achieved with the 180 billion Rufiyaa spent over the past three years?Addu City Mayor and MDP mayoral candidate Ali Nizar
Nizar stated that the current administration fails to prioritize the atolls, particularly major hubs like Addu City, during the budget approval process. Highlighting that local councils have faced the greatest neglect, Nizar noted that only five percent of the total state budget was allocated for the administrative operations of the atolls. He described the refusal to grant even a fraction of a Rufiyaa beyond this amount as a profound injustice.
Nizar specifically highlighted the ongoing electricity crisis in Addu City, identifying it as a critical issue among the various challenges resulting from the current administration's negligence toward the city.
The recurring power outages in Addu City have recently become a major grievance for its residents. Locals have expressed frustration that no permanent solution has been found for the electricity crisis, despite the current administration being in power for over two years. Furthermore, residents claim that projects initiated by the previous government to resolve the city's power issues have been brought to a standstill.
Furthermore, residents of the city have expressed concern that the current administration shows no visible effort to find a permanent solution to Addu's electricity crisis. They noted that whenever a power issue arises, the government merely provides a temporary fix by bringing in used generators from elsewhere.
Nizar further stated that the residents of Addu are currently living in constant fear of power outages occurring at any moment. He emphasized that a permanent solution to this issue is essential, noting that the situation is having a significant negative impact.
