Addu City Deputy Mayor and candidate for the upcoming term, Mohamed Shuau, has stated that residents should vote for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in the upcoming Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections to demonstrate that the government will no longer be allowed to deceive the people of Addu.
He made these remarks while speaking at the MDP's "Heyvalla Thayyaaru" rally held in Addu City on Friday night. Shuaau alleged that the government is operating in broad daylight, further noting that government employees are being utilized for party activities instead of focusing on the construction of Addu City's roads.
He stated that as someone who envisions a bright future for Addu, the residents must reflect on the city's trajectory over the past year and a half. He asserted that the current administration has significantly neglected Addu. Furthermore, he noted that road construction projects in the city have come to a standstill and that Addu's economy has been brought to a complete halt.
Administrative independence has been brought to a standstill, and our lands have been seized. Today's Members of Parliament have been turned into mere servants of the government. We must work to elect MDP today to say no to this subjugation. We must send a clear message that we will no longer allow ourselves to be perpetually deceived.Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoral Candidate Mohamed Shuaau
Shuaau stated that this is the time for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to work together as a unified front. He emphasized that in the upcoming local council elections, voters must support MDP candidates to reject oppression and exploitation. According to Shuaau, this is the only way to overcome the current climate of fear. He further asserted that the people of Addu must be given the opportunity to decide their own affairs.
Shuaau stated that the MDP is the party that will speak out in the interest of the people and that it is the MDP that possesses policies beneficial to the public. He further noted that having an MDP-led council is the best path forward for Addu.
