The Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has officially suspended its ambassadorship program with the local band ‘2ofus’ following a series of allegations and negative publicity that have threatened the corporation’s reputation and brand value.
‘2ofus’ was appointed as a Visit Maldives ambassador in July 2025. Reports indicate that the suspension took effect in January, primarily due to the adverse impact of ongoing financial allegations involving the band on the Visit Maldives brand.
Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of VMC, formally communicated the decision in a letter addressed to the band's vocalist, Ahmed Adhuham, on January 22. According to Dhauru news, VMC has issued strict directives to the band effective from the date of the letter.
These directives prohibit the band from using the Visit Maldives name, logo, branding, or any other intellectual property.
They are also barred from participating in any communications, promotions, or activities associated with VMC and must refrain from representing themselves as ambassadors of Visit Maldives.
Internal turmoil within the band became public last month when guitarist Ahmed Shaheed, more commonly known as Shaheed Legacy, departed, citing allegations of financial mismanagement.
Shaheed’s departure from the band followed the exit of lead vocalist Mohamed Nasooh, as well as Ahmed Jasheem, and Mohamed Hisham in mid-last year. Currently, ‘2ofus’ consists only of Adhuham and Abdulla Shamrooh.
Estranged former members Jasheem, Hisham, and Nasooh highlighted concerns regarding a lack of transparency in financial dealings and the persistent failure to provide regular payments to band members.
