MDP unveils council election campaign leadership as Kudoo takes charge
Ahead of the elections, MDP conducted its primary elections on 16 January 2026 to select candidates who will contest through the party’s ticket.

The main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced its campaign leadership for the upcoming Local Council Elections and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) Elections, appointing Mohamed “Kudoo” Ibrahim, as the Campaign Manager. He currently serves as the MP for North Galolhu constituency.
In a statement released on Monday, the party disclosed that former Hulhumalé MP Ali Niyaz and former Dhaandhoo MP Yauqoob Abdulla have been named Deputy Campaign Managers. The announcement outlined a multi-tiered leadership structure aimed at overseeing the party’s election efforts.
MDP also appointed Abdulla Waheed, a former lawmaker, and President of the Dhidhdhoo constituency, as the official spokesperson for the elections. Hussain Hassan, who serves as President of the Villingili constituency, has been designated as Deputy Spokesperson.
The Local Council and Women’s Development Committee Elections are scheduled for Saturday, 4 April 2026. The elections will determine representatives for a total of 226 constituencies spanning both local councils and women’s development committees.
