A formal request has been submitted to the People’s Majlis seeking an investigation into the Managing Director of Maldive Gas, Abdulla Mohamed, following social media posts that allegedly carried threatening undertones directed at two Members of Parliament.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, MP for North Galolhu constituency, Mohamed “Kudoo” Ibrahim, stated that the Managing Director of Maldive Gas had published a post targeting Vaikaradhoo MP Hussain Ziyad and South Hulhumalé MP Dr. Ahmed Shamheed. The letter called on the relevant parliamentary committee to examine the matter, noting that the nature of the post appeared to constitute an attempt to intimidate the lawmakers.
In addition to this, the lawmaker has called for a comprehensive inquiry by the Parliamentary Committee on State-Owned Enterprises (SOE Committee) into a suspicious transaction involving a gas shipment ordered in October 2024. The transaction, valued at USD 800,000, included an advance payment of USD 246,645. The lawmaker stressed that these constitute serious allegations involving a state-owned company and therefore require full disclosure and a thorough investigation.
Reports further indicate that Maldive Gas allegedly placed the order with an unqualified company under the direct instructions of the Managing Director. Further, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has already initiated an investigation into the disappearance of the advance funds paid by Maldive Gas for the shipment in question.
