The team from Naifaru island of Lhaviyani atoll has advanced to the second round of the ongoing 90 Plus Gold Cup football tournament.
Naifaru secured a spot in the second round after beating the team from Kendhoo island of Baa atoll in a group stage match held at the Galolhu National Stadium on Tuesday night.
Naifaru beat Kendhoo 2 – 1 in Tuesday’s game.
Kendhoo scored the first goal of the match and took the lead. However, Naifaru came from behind to score two goals and win the match.
Kendhoo took the lead by scoring against Naifaru in the second minute of the match. Malsoon Yameen scored the goal for Kendhoo. His shot went into the goal under the hands of Naifaru's goalkeeper as he attempted to catch the ball.
Naifaru equalized in the 19th minute of the game with a goal from Imran Mohamed. Later in the second half of the match, Imran scored a second goal, securing the win for Naifaru. In the match, both Naifaru and Kendhoo had additional opportunities to score.
With this victory, Naifaru secured a place in the second round as the second-place team in Group D. Naifaru has six points from three matches. R. Alifushi, which is in first place, has six points from two matches. In the final match of the group stage, Alifushi will face Maafushi.
