President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has officially inaugurated the upgraded football field established in the Foakaidhoo island of Shaviyani atoll.
The upgraded football ground was officially inaugurated during a ceremony held in Foakaidhoo, on July 9, as part of President Solih’s recent brief tour of Shaviyani atoll to launch his re-election campaign.
Sunday’s ceremony was joined by Vice President Faisal Naseem, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Home Affairs Sheikh Imran Abdulla and some members of the People’s Majlis.
The physical work for the development of Foakaidhoo football ground commenced on 10 January 2020.
The scope of the project included the installation of turf, sub-base, development of a rostrum and the installation of lighting systems.
As part of his recent visit to Foakaidhoo during his Shaviyani atoll campaign tour, the Maldivian leader inaugurated several more development projects initiated as part of his presidential pledges.
The development projects inaugurated on Sunday include the water and sewerage network, the island’s newly upgraded harbor as well as the healthcare center expansion project.
President Solih marked the completion of a solar panel installation project under the ongoing solar photovoltaic (PV) system project as well.
The Solih administration has made massive progress in its efforts to ensure equitable development across all inhabited islands including completing development projects that have enhanced the living standards of citizens and enabled them to live dignified lives.
The Maldivian leader embarked on the tour of Shaviyani atoll early Sunday morning and visited a total of four islands; Komandoo, Maroshi, Noomara and Foakaidhoo.
He met the island community and held optimistic discussions in all four islands.
President Solih was accorded a warm welcome upon arrival at all four islands.
Members of the Cabinet including FM Shahid, Minister of Defense and National Security Mariya Ahmed Didi, and others as well as top political figures including MP for Kaashidhoo constituency Abdulla Jabir, MP for Meedhoo constituency and leader of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) Ahmed Siyam Mohamed accompanied the president during the tour.
