In an attempt to deceive the public, President of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) Bassam Adeel Jaleel has fibbed about the budget the association receives from state as annual funds.
At the Football Awards held on Friday, Bassam had said that the state provides MVR 1.2 million as a budget which is distributed throughout the year, in quarterly divisions.
Highlighting that FAM audits its finances cautiously, Bassam stated that the budget is provided only when the association submits a financial statement of its spending and that funds are not provided otherwise.
While Bassam has made this claim, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment has revealed that they had provided the association with MVR 26.8 million this year alone. The Ministry stated that the had spent MVR 26.8 million on the association in the previous year.
It added companies had also spent about MVR 30 million on sports clubs, this year.
However, According to a budget released by FAM this year, the ministry is to provide over MVR seven million (exactly MVR 7،667،798.40) to the association.
However, Bassam has asserted that they have been provided with a lesser amount.
Although Bassam hangs onto this assertion, it is notable that the ministry had provided amounts heftier than the budgeted amount to the association.
In the publicized budget by the FAM, FIFA is to provide MVR 27.5 million a, with AFC givingMVR 3.85 million.
FAM had passed a budget of over MVR 62 million for 2018.
