Maldivian runner Himna Hassan and basketball star Ismail Wildhan will have the honor of hoisting the country's national flag at this year’s Islamic Solidarity Games.
The Islamic Solidarity Games 2022 will kick off during a ceremony scheduled for Tuesday evening, in Konya, Turkey.
The Fifth Islamic Solidarity Games are organized to be held in the city of Konya, Turkey from August 9 - 21.
The Maldivian flag to be hoisted in Tuesday’s ceremony was handed over to Himna and Wildhan by the Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Ahmed Mahloof along with the President of the Maldives Olympics Committee, Mohamed Abdul Sattar.
A total of 51 officials and athletes from the Maldives will be in Turkey for the games.
Maldives will be taking part in four events including table tennis, swimming, athletics and basketball, at the games.
During the ceremony to handover the flags to Himna and Wildhan, the Maldivian youth minister as well as the President of the Maldives Olympics Committee and Contingents Chef de Mission Aishath Shifana Wajeeh had offered words of encouragement and motivation to the athletes and wished them success in the games.
The athletes were urged to put in their best efforts and bring a good name to the country by making every effort to win.
