Volleyball champions, the Maldivian Sports and Recreation Club, has left to Vietnam to take part in this year’s Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Cup.
The competition will be held from 28th June to July 7th and Maldivians Sports Club will compete against China’s Beijing Automotive Volleyball Club, Japan’s Toyota Club, and Thailand’s Air Force.
A total of 14 clubs will compete in the competition.
The Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) said in a press conference earlier this week that the club expects to do well in the competition. The association’s chair, Mohamed Latheef said that the VAM would assist the club in anyway it can.
The club will enter the competition under the watch of coach Abdulla Nashid. Nashed had said at the departure that the team had little time to practice and that the recently ended month of Ramadan, which Muslims spend fasting, had been somewhat of an obstacle to the team’s schedules.
He said that the club will focus on providing a challenge to the opposing team and garnering experience.
