Maldivian flag bearer at IOIG 2019 opening ceremony to be announced on Sunday
 
The 2019 Indian Ocean Island Games are to be held in Mauritius, from 19-28 July

Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) is to announce the athlete that will carry the Maldivian flag at the opening ceremony of the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) 2019, on Sunday.

MOC said that the announcement will be made at a special ceremony, adding that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will be attendance.

The athlete is to be selected through the MOC board.

Maldives’ fastest runner, Hassan Saaid held the flag at the opening ceremony in 2015.

He was selected through a SMS vote, after competing against seven other athletes.

While the Maldivian contingent taking part in IOG 2019 is to travel to Mauritius next Wednesday, President Solih will meet with them on Sunday as well.

The 2019 Indian Ocean Island Games are to be held from 19-28 July.

Maldives is currently working to working to host the games in 2023.
