Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Suhail Ahmed has revealed that 130 hectares of land will be reclaimed for the Thilafushi island masterplan.
While speaking on RaajjeTV’s ‘Fala Surukhee’ programme, Suhail stated that after the works of Greater Male’ Industrial Zone Limited (GMIZ) merged with HDC, HDC was mandated to take on their responsibilities as well. With that, Suhail added that Thilafushi’s master plan is now complete.
Noting that 110 hectares of land have already been reclaimed in Thilafushi, Suhail stated that the work to reclaim 130 hectares has already begun.
Further noting that the Thilafushi’s master plan includes major projects, the HDC managing director said that 30 hectares is to be reclaimed within six months for industrial work while the remaining 100 hectares is to be completed in one and a half years.
Suhail added that the are currently working on completing the Environmental Impact Assessment (EICA) required for the plan.
Housing Minister, Mohamed Aslam stated that one of the biggest aims of the current government is to transfer the industrial work being done in Male’ to Thilafushi and affirmed that this will be done before the government’s tenure is over.
