Officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) have stormed the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to investigate a case where plots were allegedly given to people who were ineligible under the ‘Binveriyaa’ scheme.
The police institution revealed that a criminal investigation into the matter is currently underway.
It recently came to light that efforts were made to secure a plot for Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, the brother of HDC's Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, under the ‘Binveriyaa’ scheme, even though he was ineligible. The list published by the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development shows that Fazeel does not meet the criteria for a plot under the ‘Binveriyaa’ scheme.
A letter sent by the ministry also highlights that the database of the scheme shows that these individuals are not among those who have submitted applications requesting plots under the scheme.
According to leaked documents, a letter signed by HDC's Deputy Director Ahmed Aiman and sent to Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar states that two parties have already submitted requests for permission to build boundary walls, claiming they have been allocated Plot No. 20768 in Hulhumalé, measuring 1,250 square feet. These individuals are Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed and Abdul Majid Mahir. The letter requests clarification on which party has actually been allocated this plot.
