Maziya Sports and Recreation Club's friendly against Saudi Arabia's Al-Wehda FC ended in a draw.
The Maldivian team is currently in Saudi Arabia as part of its training for this month's AFC Cup games. While this was Maziya's second friendly with a Saudi team, neither of the teams were able to score a goal during the match. Al-Wehda is a team of Saudi Arabia’s first division that competes in the UAE Pro League.
Maziya's won its first friendly match during the ongoing training, against Al-Ittihad with a 2-1 score. The team's last friendly will be against Jeddah FC on August 12.
The training opportunity was facilitated by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) as Maziya Sports and Recreation Club prepares to represent Maldives in the AFC Cup group stage.
While the team is to return to Maldives on August 14, the AFC Cup matches will commence on the 15th with the playoff game against Maldives' Club Eagles and India's Bengaluru FC; winner of this match will join Maziya, India’s ATK Mohun Bagan FC and Bangladesh's Bashundhara Kings in Group D of the AFC Cup. The group stage will be held across three match days on August 18, 21 and 24, with the eventual group leaders advancing to the single-leg Inter Zone Semi-final.
Maziya’s first match will be on August 18, against Bashundhara Kings. Second match will be against Mohun Bagan, the third being the winners of the playoff match.
Maziya started training for the AFC Cup group stage on July 10.
