Maziya Sports and Recreation Club has emerged victorious in the first game of the Ooredoo Dhivehi Premier League (DPL), played with numerous changes after the club’s coach quit following the league championship.
Maziya went head-to-head against United Victory (UV) under the careful instructions of Assistant Coach Ahmed Suzeir and won despite having undergone so many changes.
Young goalie Iyan Abdul Aleem was included among the first 11, with goalie Hussain Shareef taking over the goal in the second half.
Some of the players who usually did not get included in the first 11 and were given the opportunity during Tuesday’s game included Assadulla Abdulla, Defender Ahmed Abdulla, Akram Abdul Ghanee, Ibrahim Waheed Hassan and Moosa Yameen.
Maziya beat UV 0 – 4 in Tuesday’s game, having taken the lead with three goals in the first half.
The first goal was scored by Naaiz Hassan in the 14th minute, followed by captain Hamza Mohamed a mere minute later.
Five minutes before the first half ended, Ibrahim Waheed Hassan extended the lead by scoring the third goal for the winning team.
The fourth and final score for Maziya was by Moosa Yameen.
The champion team remains at the top of the table with 57 points, with UV coming at second with 26 points.
Both teams have one remaining game to compete in the league.
