The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has lifted the monitoring status from Thinadhoo island in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll, 10 days after the measures were put in place.
Thinadhoo was placed under monitoring on February 7 with travel in and out of the island banned, after two people who had travelled to Male' City from Thinadhoo tested positive for Covid-19. An additional case was reported from Thinadhoo, who had been identified as a direct contact of a confirmed Covid-19 patient from Addu City.
Monitoring measures were placed there as authorities conducted contact tracing as well as random sampling in Thinadhoo, to ensure there is no community spread.
HPA said that the measures were lifted from Thinadhoo is they were ‘no longer required’.
While Male’ City has been the country’s Covid-19 center, cases reported from outlying atolls increased recently especially in the south where Thinadhoo is located. Curfews have been imposed in southernmost Addu and Fuvahmulah cities, following the confirmation of community transmission.
