Maldives confirmed 125 new cases of the global Covid-19 pandemic on Saturday.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s latest statistics reveal that 106 out of the total cases reported by 6pm, Saturday, were from the Greater Malé Region and 19 cases were reported from residential islands.
The new cases including 112 Maldivians and 13 foreigners have brought the country’s Covid-19 case count to 8,486.
At a time recoveries being reported of recent have seen a notable increase as well, HPA reported 180 recoveries by 6pm Saturday, pushing the total number of recovered patients to 5,822.
The country has seen 29 deaths to Covid-19 thus far with active cases currently at 2,629.
According to HPA, 168 patients are hospitalized for treatment whereas 1,235 remain at isolation facilities currently.
Speaking during Saturday night’s presser, the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC)’s spokesperson, Dr. Nazla Rafeeq stressed that a number of rooms at isolation facilities have been “damaged” by occupants.
Maldives has also confirmed 111 Covid-19 cases, out of which 103 are active cases from 38 residential islands and 20 resorts.
The most number of cases have been reported from Hoandedhdhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll, with nearly 20 infections. Authorities have since implemented monitoring measures in the island, as well as Madaveli island in the same atoll.
Over 10,000 arrivals have been recorded since the country reopened borders for international travel and out of the tourist arrivals, 17 have contracted the virus and 45 resort workers are also positive for the infection.
