Maldives reported 146 new cases of the global Covid-19 infection on Wednesday.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed on Wednesday night that by 6pm, a total of 146 new cases were reported out of which two are from outlying islands whereas the remaining 144 are from the Greater Malé Region.
The new cases include 117 Maldivians, 21 Bangladeshi nationals, two Indian nationals five nationals from Sri Lanka and one Filipino.
This has pushed the country’s Covid-19 total case count to 6,225.
At a time Maldives has seen a great spike in cases being reported of recent, coronavirus cases have also been confirmed from outlying islands. As such, cases have surfaced from 20 regions including two districts of southernmost Addu City; Feydhoo and Hithadhoo.
Out of the total of 2,413 active cases in the island nation currently, 12 are from resorts, including seven tourists and 13 staff. Maldives reopened borders for international travel on July 15 after nearly four months since they were shut down. Authorities had formed specific guidelines to be followed by airports as well as aircrafts operating to the Maldives, to be strictly followed.
Currently, 152 individuals remain hospitalized for Covid-19 treatment, whereas 1,390 patients are receiving treatment at isolation facilities.
Maldives also confirmed 140 recoveries on Wednesday with which the country’s total number of recovered patients has risen to 3,788.
