Maldives confirmed 128 new cases of the global Covid-19 pandemic on Thursday.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed via its nightly publication that as of 6pm, 128 new cases were detected out of which one was discovered from an outlying atoll.
The new cases include 83 Maldivians, 35 Bangladeshi nationals, four Sri Lankan nationals, four Indian nationals and two nationals from Nepal.
This has pushed the country’s total Covid-19 tally to 5,494.
With an additional 36 recoveries reported by 6pm Thursday, the country has confirmed a total of 2,920 recoveries thus far.
Maldives currently has 2,553 active cases of the virus, with 156 hospitalized for treatment whereas 1,476 individuals are receiving treatment at isolation facilities.
The Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) revealed during Thursday night’s press briefing that five patients are currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the 11th floor of Dharumavantha Hospital.
While a spike in Covid-19 cases was observed following the implementation of the lockdown ease plan on May 29, Covid-19 cases are also being reported from outlying atolls. As such, Covid-19 cases were reported from 14 islands.
There are active cases in eight resorts as well, including six tourists and 12 staff members.
The regions where Covid-19 cases have been confirmed are:
- Kelaa island in Haa Alif atoll,
- Filladhoo island in Haa Alif atoll,
- Hulhudhuffaaru island in Raa atoll,
- Kudarikilu island in Baa atoll,
- Naifaru island in Lhaviyani atoll,
- Thulusdhoo island in Kaafu atoll,
- Ihavandhoo island in Haa Alif atoll,
- Naivaadhoo island in Haa Dhaal atoll,
- Kamadhoo island in Baa atoll,
- Hinnavaru island in Lhaviyani atoll,
- Maafushi island in Kaafu atoll,
- Fulidhoo island in VVavu atoll,
- Hithadhoo and Feydhoo districts of Addu City
- Fuvahmulah City
