The group of expatriate workers that created unrest in an island in Vaavu atoll on Monday night, has been remanded.

The expatriate workers were remanded by 15 days, by the Felidhoo Magistrate Court.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that a group of expatriate workers on the island, being developed as a resort, had taken to the streets and gotten in the way of work, having churned unrest.

However, police did not disclose further details including which island the unrest took place in.

Police officers were dispatched to the island following the reports. No injuries were caused due to the unrest, revealed authorities.

Expatriate workers involved in the unrest had damaged their supervisor’s room, on the island.

This comes at a time expatriate workers have been taking to the streets of recent, protesting unpaid wages.
