Maldives confirmed six new cases of the global Covid-19 pandemic on Friday.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the new cases include three Maldivians and three Bangladeshi nationals.
With this development, the country’s Covid-19 case count has risen to 2,283.
Further, with the 15 additional recoveries reported on Friday, the total number of recoveries sits at 1,863.
Maldives currently has 407 active Covid-19 cases and the virus has taken eight lives thus far.
The country imposed a full lockdown across the Greater Malé Region on April 15, following the discovery of a community transmission. Over a month later, authorities began implementing the lockdown ease plan on May 29 and the country is currently in phase two, where a number of restrictions are still in place.
Authorities earlier revealed that the lockdown had proven to be effective in controlling the spread of the virus, and the least number of cases to have been reported within the past week, was on Friday.
