A white alert has been issued from Haa Alif to southernmost Addu City.
Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) issued the white alert after predicting heavy rain showers and thunderstorms with winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour over the region between both atolls.
The advisory remains in effect from 8:45am to 1:45pm.
The southernmost city is one of the regions of the island nation to have been severely affected by the southwest monsoon, having experienced flooding which caused damage like residents have never experienced before.
Generally, the department has predicted seas to be moderate becoming rough during showers throughout the country and urges caution against the adverse weather conditions.
The country will experience fairly widespread rain showers with occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms at times.
Further, MET predicted surface winds to vary from west to northwesterly at 10 – 20 miles per hour in the north as well as central Maldives and south to southwesterly at 8 – 18 miles per hour in the south.
Winds are expected to gust up to 45 miles per hour during showers, throughout the entire country.
