The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a white alert over some regions expected to experience adverse weather conditions.

The department issued the white alert on Wednesday afternoon, from Haa Alif atoll to Vaavu atoll.

The alert is in effect from 2:30pm to 8:30pm Wednesday, said MET.

During this period, heavy rain showers, thunder storms are expected to prevails over these regions, with strong winds of 19 – 24 miles per hours are expected to gust at 45 miles per hour,

The department publicized its weather forecast for the period between 10am to 10pm, predicting scattered rain showers and a few thunderstorms to prevail over the country with squally rain showers in the north and central atolls.

While swell wave surges are expected during high tide times over some regions, the department has predicted seas to be moderate becoming rough during showers.

Further, MET revealed that surface winds will vary between west to north westerly at 13 – 23 miles per hour and winds may increase 45 – 55 miles per hour, during showers.

The public has been urged to practice caution due to the strong monsoon activities the country has been experiencing for the past few days.
