Sheikh Hussain Yoosuf has passed away at the age of 78.
Hussain Yoosuf was a long serving public servant, a distinguished Islamic scholar and judge.
Yoosuf passed away on Wednesday night, in India, after having been ill for a long time.
He left behind a wife and seven children including Hisaan and Thilmeeza Hussain; MP for Thulhaadhoo constituency and Maldives’ Ambassador to the United States, respectively.
Sheikh Hussain Yoosuf had served in the People’s Majlis, as well as the High Court and the Justice Ministry.
The B. Hithaadhoo native had made immense contributions to the island’s education sector, including providing free education, as well as sponsoring further education of a number of children.
He was also active in the country’s reform work, and made various contributions to the current ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
