MMPRC report delayed to intimidate some MPs: Ali Hussain
Likely that action will be taken against MPs
Report used to intimidate MPs
JP will vote in favor of motion

Kendhoo Constituency MP Ali Hussain says that the report on the corruption of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations (MMPRC) was being delayed in order to intimidate some Members of Parliament.

MP Ali Hussain said that it was likely that any and all MPs involved in the no confidence motion against Parliament Speaker Abdullah Maseeh, will face retribution. However, he said all those MPs had taken on the initiative, fully well aware of the possible retribution.

“I do believe that MMPRC report was delayed due to such intentions, they can list any of the MPs in the report, hold that threat against the MPs and disrupt the vote,” Ali Hussain said.

MP Ali Hussain said the MPs who will back the motion, will remain committed in spite of the disruptions. He added that even the public have now begun to accept that Maseeh can be ousted from his position.

He said that Jumhooree Party will back the motion, pointing out the Party’s track record on issues critical to the state of the nation.

President Abdullah Yameen had previously stated that MPs had benefited from the embezzled funds. However, he claimed that the MPs were not aware that the funds, disbursed by former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, were siphoned off from MMPRC illegally.
