Medical Director at state-run Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Dr. Ali Nazeem has revealed that the hospital currently has a 380-bed capacity.
Joining the routinely press briefing by the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) to provide the latest updates of the current situation in the Maldives on Saturday afternoon, the doctor revealed that the hospital currently has a 380-bed capacity, however, not all of them will be allocated for Covid-19 patients.
Although the hospital has over 300 beds, Dr. Nazeem highlighted that all of these beds will not be occupied by Covid-19 patients alone, and that some of them will be allocated for other patients as well.
The routine procedures cannot be halted at the hospital, which is the only tertiary, Aasandha-covered government hospital in the island nation.
In light of this, the doctor noted that they cannot halt emergency procedures.
Highlighting that discussions have been held with other hospitals in regard to the treatment of coronavirus-stricken patients, Dr. Nazeem stated that some of these patients will be transferred to Tree Top Hospital for treatment on Sunday.
A total of 160 individuals were taken into isolation at IGMH out of which 60 were admitted for treatment.
