Covid-19: Suspension of congregational prayers extended until April 11
 
The period has been increased by another week
 
The suspension was initally from March 18th to 28th which extended to April 4th
 
Authorities had suspended prayers at mosques in the capital and resorts

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has extended the suspension on congregational prayers at mosques in the capital and resorts up to April 11th.

On March 18th, authorities had decided to suspend prayers at mosques in the capital and resorts, including Friday prayer, until March 28th, as a precautionary measure against the spread of Covid-19. This was extended to April 4th and the suspension period has been increased once again by an additional week. The decision was based on the current situation of the pandemic, says the ministry.

In an exclusive interview to RaajjeMV, Minister of Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Zahir reiterated that the decision was based on the developing Covid-19 situation of the country. Further, it is a precautionary measure against the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

The suspension will last until Asr prayer of April 11th.

He went onto urge citizens to frequently pray at home, especially sunnah prayers while advising citizens to increase prayers of supplication as well. Moreover, he instructed citizens to follow orders of the relevant authorities, as it is for the sake of public health.

The ministry also highlights that congregational prayers will continue as soon as the situation is solved.
