Arrested for having threatened to kill Judge Shujau Usman

Criminal Court has extended the remand for former Deputy Minister at Education Ministry Ibrahim Haneef, who was arrested on charges of having threated to kill High Court Judge Shujau Usman.

This is the third time his remand was extended.

Raajje.mv understands that his remand was extended by seven days.

Haneef’s arrest was appealed in High Court, which had upheld the Criminal Court’s verdict on his remand.

Haneef was arrested from his residence on April 5th. His phone was confiscated prior to arrest.

High Court verdict stated that Haneef was charged with terrorism and therefore posed a security threat to the general public. It also noted that the state had enough evidence to prove that Haneef had attempted to carry out an attack, which by itself was a grievous crime on a Judge.

Both Judge Shujau and Haneef hail from the island of Vilingili in Gaaf Alif atoll.

RaajjeMV understands that Haneef was arrested on the statement of a ruling Progressive Party of Maldives activist.
