Since the emergence of two positive cases of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Kuredu Island Resort in Lhaviyani atoll on Saturday, authorities have isolated 93 individuals on the island.
This was revealed at a press conference on Sunday night, where Minister of Health, Abdulla Ameen revealed that samples have been taken from 24 individuals thus far, out of which two turned positive to the fatal disease.
The remaining 20 turned negative, and the authorities are expected to receive the results of the remaining two tests very soon.
Eight individuals have been quarantined at the isolation facility established in Farukolhufushi island, said the minister, who added that 93 individuals have been isolated in their rooms in Kuredu, the island is in alert status “Orange” since the cases emerged.
Further, while the authorities are conducting “contact tracing”, 80 individuals have come under the radar thus far.
Authorities added that 11 individuals have been quarantined in Sandies Bathala, and they are working to transfer a worker at Kuredu, native to Foakaidhoo island of Shaviyani atoll to Farukolhufushi for monitoring and testing after he developed symptoms similar to the infection.
The two individuals who tested positive to the disease are in good condition, and they are not showing symptoms of deteriorating, said Ameen.
An Italian tourist vacationing at Bathala is currently being tested for the disease after showing symptoms, the island is on lockdown as well.
