Another Maldivian suspected of having the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has been reported, reveals the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
HPA stated that another Maldivian showing symptoms of the respiratory infection was also reported to the agency on Thursday evening; the first suspected case was a Maldivian returning from Italy where an outbreak has emerged.
The individual has since been placed under isolation until test results come back, said HPA, adding that the test results will be announced as soon as possible.
They further stated that the agency will take all necessary steps if anyone who has been in contact with the individual also begins exhibiting symptoms of the infection.
As such, a confirmed case of COVID19 infection has yet to be discovered in the country.
Although there are currently no confirmed cases of infection in the country, nation-wide efforts are being implemented to curb an outbreak. As of recent, Maldivians returning from countries where the virus has emerged are being placed under isolation until test results conclude. Diagnostic testing for the infection has also been arranged at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
