The government has reinforced several measures in its preventive efforts against the novel coronavirus

Inquiries were made on ways to enhance the facility

Minister of Health, Abdulla Ameen has toured the isolation facility established in Farukolhufushi island in Kaafu atoll.

Minister Ameen visited the facility on Saturday and inquired on progress of the work at the facility.

Further, the minister sought details of the current services available at the facility and measures being taken to enhance services.

The minister’s visit comes at a time the government is taking a number of preventive measures after a novel coronavirus began spreading globally. The epidemic began from Wuhan City in China.

As such, the authorities have been implementing preventive measures in order to curb a possible outbreak, predicted owing to the high tourist arrivals rate from China. Some of them include seeking further equipment for screening arrivals at all entry points, establishing quarantine facilities in different islands and providing assistance to Maldivians residing abroad.

A quarantine facility has been established in Funadhoo island in Kaafu atoll and thermal cameras are being operated at entry points including sea ports.
