Maldives Police Service (MPS) has begun investigating a mass of suspicious packages that washed ashore in Maamendhoo island of Gaaf Alif atoll early Monday.
Police revealed that they received the reports of suspicious packages washing ashore on the south side of the island at around 06:35am on Monday.
While officers arrived at the scene shortly after, they confiscated 44 packages stuffed with unknown substances.
Officers have since begun preparations to run tests to figure out what was inside the packages, revealed police.
Photos and a video shared by authorities show similarly packaged cylinders stuffed with substances that look similar to dry foliage.
While the case surfaced early Monday, officers are also working to figure out what was inside a two-feet long package that washes ashore in Girifushi island of Kaafu atoll recently.
