Athif announced his resignation on Tuesday

Mohamed “Athi” Athif has resigned as the head coach of United Victory (UV).

He announced his resignation at a press conference held by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) on Tuesday.

The experienced coach said that he decided to resign as “there are a number of issues within UV”, adding that there is “no room” for him to work with the team anymore.

He noted that the team “has no target for the football season.”

Athif said that he intends to continue with his coaching career, but did not reveal which club or division he will go to next.

UV has lost both its matches in the Malé League so far; they lost to Club Eagles 2-0 and 3-0 to New Radiant Sports Club.

Athif holds a level ‘A’ coaching license, and took over UV as head coach in 2016. He was previously the head coach of the women’s national football team.

Malé League has been halted due to the recent H1N1 outbreak across the country, as the Health Protection Agency (HPA) had warned against holding public gatherings for the time period.
