Head coach of the national football team, Darren Stewart, has been released from hospital after being injured in a fall on Wednesday.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, general secretary of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), Hussain Javaaz said that Stewart had injured himself after an accidental fall while getting off an airplane, after landing in Velana International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

However, Stewart had not sustained any serious injuries, and was released after being treated at ADK Hospital.

The national football team will play in the SAFF Championship this year, under the leadership of Coach Stewart, as well as the Asian Cup Qualifying Games.

FAM recently revealed that the team will begin training for the tournaments “soon”.

The former Australian defender first joined the team as head coach in July 2016, and trained the team for the Asian Cup Qualification playoff games against Laos, is September and October 2016.

Stewart, who had been based in Singapore prior to his gig as the national team coach, had played for the Australian national team, from 1991 to 1993.
