Mohamed Sharaf has been chosen as the head coach of the men’s national volleyball team.
The team is currently preparing for the upcoming Senior Men’s Asian Central Games, to be held in the Maldives in March.
The appointment was announced on Thursday, at a ceremony held at the Youth Center, where the official team jerseys were handed out to the players.
- The jerseys were handed by the deputy president of the Sports Council, Mohamed Anees.
Mohamed “Bodu Kaattey” Saajid and Ibrahim “Sadih’ke” Shiyam were appointed as Assistant Coaches.
Prior to Sharaf, Sri Lankan coach, Sisira Kumar had been the head coach of the national team, and helped the team win third place at the AVC Central Zone Tournament, held in Bangladesh in December 2016.
In the same tournament in 2015, the Maldives national team had won second place.
In addition, Abdulla Nasheed was appointed as the team’s official trainer, while Ahmed Miyan and Naseem “Naseembe” Ali were appointed as team officials. Ali “Delight Ali” Latheef was named as the team’s manager.
President of the Volleyball Association of Maldives, Mohamed Latheef said that the appointments were made after “much consideration”, adding that all have been active in the volleyball community since 2009.
