Thilandhunmathi “Northern Conference” has concluded on Wednesday.
The conference took place from 9am to 5pm on Wednesday and members of Parliament representing Haa Alif and Haa Dhaal constituencies making up the Thilandhunmathi division, candidates contesting for the constituencies in the upcoming Local Council Elections as well as President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, government ministers and Speaker, Former President Mohamed Nasheed were in attendance.
The conference, held in Kulhudhuffushi City, was divided into three sessions and during the first session, participants were given a summary of the state budget and the Decentralization Act.
During all three sessions, President Solih, Speaker Nasheed and several ministers answered queries from participants and extended information on several topics.
The second session saw a presentation revolving around ways to increase job opportunities for residents in the atoll.
Discussions were also held by teams that included participating MPs, MDP National Congress members, owners of government companies, ministers and officials of the President’s Office, regarding ways through which job opportunities may be extended further for the island communities.
The six teams also delivered a presentation based on their discussions and the schemes and plans deliberations revolved around.
Solih stated that the presentations deliver the people’s ideologies and requirements, and also highlights the people’s priority to boost local guest house businesses in tourism as well as local agriculture.
Further, the president pledged to pave an efficient way for councils to carry out projects as they desire.
During the third session, information was provided regarding government schemes as well as ways through which councils may be financially empowered and given responsibilities.
The one-day conference was inaugurated by President Solih.
