Fisheries Ministry 2010 Audit
ACC concludes no corruption in Fisheries audit

Reportedly, ministry employees had later located the cash and informed auditors accordingly.

ACC stated that a cheque of MVR 2, 946 and MVR 2,454 in cash were missing from the Ministry’s vault.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had ended its probe into a 2010 audit that revealed missing funds from the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture.

In a report following an initial investigation into the audit, the ACC stated that a cheque of MVR 2, 946 and MVR 2,454 in cash were missing from the Ministry’s vault. The audit for 2010 was done in June of 2011.

The Commission had located the cheque on July 3rd. 2011. However, the Ministry had not clarified what happened to the cash even by July 7th.

Three employees at the Ministry’s budget section had later located the cash and informed auditors accordingly. Though, given that the cash had not been in the vault at the time of the audit, the audit report made a point not to conclusively state that the cash had been found.

On December of 2011, the Ministry had released comments on the audit, signed by its finance executive. The eighth comment said the missing cash had been found and placed in the vault.

The ACC thus decided that no acts that can be constituted as corruption, in reference to the Anti-Corruption Act, had occurred in the case.
