Maldives' Ministry of Islamic Affairs has revealed that the religious organisation known as Makthaba Salafiyyah has been operating unregistered schools around the country.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Ismail Afrah, the ministry's media official, stated that the ministry was informed about Makthaba Salafiyyah operating unregistered schools operated around the country by members of the public.

Afrah stated that Mohamed Hassan of Makthaba Salafiyyah has been issuing fatwas persuading people to send their children to schools run by his organisation instead of public school.

As such, the organisation held a press conference regarding the issue of extremist ideologies on Saturday. At the conference, they denied allegations of extremism against them and accused religious scholars from the Jamiyyath Salaf organisation of spreading extremist ideologies.
