Aminath Abdulla Didi has been appointed as the Maldives’ first Consul General.
As such, she will head the Consulate in Thiruvananthapuram, India.
Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid presented her letter of appointment on Sunday.
The minister said that he was “honored and proud to announce the appointment of a woman as Maldives' first Consul General.”
A career diplomat, Aminath has served in the foreign sector for over 17 years and has filled roles such as director at the foreign ministry.
She earned her Bachelors’ Degree in Business from India’s Bangalore University, and her Master’s in International Relations from Australia’s Monash University.
While a woman has been appointed as the Maldives first Consul General abroad, eight out of the 17 foreign envoys appointed by the current administration are female.
