United States Ambassador to the Maldives, Alaina Teplitz has praised President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration for “a productive year”.
Teplitz is currently in the Maldives on an official visit, and has met with government officials and civil society members.
In a tweet posted on Wednesday, the ambassador said that she was back in Maldives “to talk about ways to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure inclusive economic development.

She added that it has been quite “a productive year” for the Solih administration that took office in November 2018. Teplitz was in the country for Solih’s inauguration on 17th November 2018, and had presented her credentials to President Solih the next day.
The US ambassador also met with civil society leaders on Tuesday, together with Australian Ambassador David Holly.
In a tweet posted later, Ambassador Teplitz noted their “efforts to protect and promote the rights of all Maldivians” and added that this contributes to the country’s advancement.
Both US and Australian ambassadors met with Mohamed Khaleel, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, on Monday.
