The Anti-Corruption Commission of Maldives (ACC) has stated that three cases of corruption have been investigated and forwarded to the Prosecutor-General's (PG) office for prosecution, in the past nine months.
These include a case that was sent to the PG office in the third quarter of this year, to prosecute one suspect for the misuse of position for the personal gain of a third party.
Another case forwarded to the PG office in the third quarter of 2018 includes two suspects for the misuse of position for personal gain and the personal gain of a third party as well.
They further state that 12 cases sent to the PG office were returned to the ACC, six of which the PG office determined as unprosecutable due to various reasons.
This includes three cases returned in the third quarter of this year, bringing the total owed to the state to MVR 3,646,500.00 (three million, six hundred and forty-six thousand and five hundred rufiyaa).
According to ACC, this total consists of MVR 190,674,529.01 from the first nine months of 2019 and MVR 1,852,713.97 from only the third quarter of this year.
They also revealed that this number is derived from 16 cases investigated by the ACC.
Furthermore, they state that the relevant institutions have already recovered MVR 78,763.33 owed from the third quarter of this year.
