A celebratory match was held in coach Mohamed “Nizambe” Nizam’s honour on Saturday, as he prepares to head to Bangladesh to train Saif Sporting Club.
The two teams that competed in the match are; Team Nizambe and MS Mates.
MC Mates took the match with a 2-1 score.
Nizam had been the coach of the national under 16 team prior to being selected as the Bangladeshi’s team’s coach.
Saif SC has been competing in the Bangladesh Football Premier League since 2016.
While this is the first time a Maldivian coach has been offered such an opportunity, Nizam said that this “is also a huge opportunity for Maldivian football.”
Noting that this will bring a good name to the country’s football industry, Nizam said that this will open up other such opportunities for Maldivian trainers in the international arena.
Nizam received his AFC A coaching license in Bangladesh earlier this year.
While he is to have been offered coaching opportunities from two other clubs in the Bangladesh Premier League, Nizam said that he chose Saif SC after looking into their plans for the upcoming season.
Some of Nizam’s biggest accomplishments were with TC Sports Club, who under his instruction moved to the first division and won the Dhivehi Premier League three consecutive years ,as well as the Sheikh Kamal International Cup in 2017.
He was also chosen at the best football coach, the past two years.
