The current government has no will of their own: opposition
Abdul Raheem Abdulla stated that the current administration has not taken any action against the MDN report because they are unable to do so.

Leader of opposition People's National Congress (PNC), Abdul Raheem Abdulla, has stated that the current administration is unable to carry out any action on their own will.

While speaking at a press conference held by the opposition coalition to mark Victory Day, Abdul Raheem stated that the current administration has not taken any action against the controversial report by the Maldivian Democracy Network (MDN) "because they are unable to do so".

He went on to accuse the current government of being involved with foreign organizations, claiming that it is evident that agreements with certain third parties have been made from their reports.

According to Abdul Raheem, the conference was scheduled to be held at the Carnival area after concluding the 'Badi Buraasfathi' protest, but was relocated to outside the PPM office due to the government not granting them permits.

He added that 2,000 people had attended the gathering "even after the venue change."

Abdul Raheem further stated that MDP is a party that is afraid of protests.

12 people were arrested at the assembly held by Progressive Coalition to mark Victory Day, however, they have since been released.

In regard to the assembly, the Maldives Police Service released a statement via Twitter that they will not tolerate any gatherings that violate the Freedom of Peaceful Assembly Act.
