Majlis approves Fathuhulla Jameel as Commissioner General of Taxation
71 MPs voted in Jameel’s favour, while 71 voted for Asma

People’s Majlis has on Monday approved Fathuhulla Jameel for the post Commission General of Taxation.
While President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had forwarded two names for the post -Jameel and Ismail Nadhid- parliament's committee on economic affairs approved the former at a meeting last Wednesday. Interview sessions were held with nominees prior.
Main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s parliamentary group (PG) had issued a three-line whip on Sunday night, to vote in favour of Jameel’s appointment to the post.
82 MPs voted in Jameel’s favour. A vote was not called for Nashid, as Jameel received the required number of votes.
In addition, Asma Shafeeu has been approved as the Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation with 81 votes.
MDP had also issued a three-line whip, in Asma’s favour.
The president had forwarded six names for the post of Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation.
They are, Asma, Mohamed Siraj Muneer, Ismail Sajid, Ahmed Shareef, Ahmed Wafir and Hamdhy Agheel.
