Syria has beat Maldives in the ongoing AFC U-19 Qualifying tournament in Tajikistan.

Maldives lost to Syria in the group “C” match, 3 – 2 on Friday.

The team of young Maldivian players had taken the lead into the beginning of the match with Defender Ibrahim Saavee scoring the first goal with the aid from the team’s coach, Captain Hassan Nazeem Gasim.

With the goal, Maldives team showed an excellent performance, having blocked several goal attempts from the opposition team.

However, Syria had scored two goals into the end of the first half, which ended 2 – 1 with Syria in the lead.

Syria won the match by scoring a third goal in the 62nd minute of the intense game.

With this win, Syria is now in the top spot of the group having secured four points from both matches it played in the qualifiers.

Maldives team is at the bottom of the group, with zero points and is next scheduled to go head-to-head with Lebanon on Sunday.

The team that secures the top spot in the group will get qualified for the AFC U-19 Championship to be hosted in Uzbekistan in 2020.
